CalWORKs, Medi-Cal or Foster Care Recipients
If you receive CalWORKs and/or Medi-Cal, the Human Services Agency (HSA) will automatically send a referral to San Mateo County DCSS to review to open a case on your behalf. As part of your eligibility to continue receiving assistance from HSA, you are required to cooperate with our Department in establishing paternity and support. If you feel you have Good Cause to not cooperate with San Mateo County DCSS in this process, you must alert your eligibility worker right away to request an exemption.
If your child is in Foster Care, a referral is forwarded from the Human Services Agency (HSA) to San Mateo County DCSS to open a case on your child’s behalf. San Mateo County DCSS will open a case against each parent to establish paternity and collect support for the child.
If a case is opened as a result of a referral from the Human Services Agency (HSA), you will receive notification that a case is opened, the assigned case number and your participant number. You may be contacted for an intake appointment.
