When paternity must be established for a child, you may request a genetic test to establish if you are the biological father of the child during the process.  San Mateo County DCSS conducts tests twice a month.  If you wish to take a genetic test and paternity has not already been established, you may sign a Stipulation for Genetic Testing.  After this Stipulation is signed and filed, you will receive an appointment time to appear for the tests.

If paternity is already established through an order of the court, within 2 years of a default judgment taken or after a POP Paternity Declaration has been filed with the state, you must file a motion in court to request that the court allow for genetic tests.

For more information regarding obtaining a genetic test, please contact the San Mateo County DCSS.
